Tuna Packaging Bags with PVDC/EVOH High-Barrier Films

Packtastic Tuna Bags are premium high-barrier shrink bags engineered specifically for the preservation of fresh, frozen, and precooked tuna loins. Manufactured using advanced multi-layer co-extrusion technology with PVDC (Polyvinylidene Chloride) or EVOH (Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol) barrier layers, these bags deliver exceptional protection against oxygen, moisture, and external contaminants. When exposed to hot water at 85–90°C, the bag shrinks tightly around the tuna, forming a wrinkle-free "second skin" that conforms precisely to the product surface—preserving natural colour, texture, juice, and flavour.

Designed specifically for tuna loin packaging, Packtastic Tuna Bags offer extended chilled shelf life up to 4 months under refrigeration, making them ideal for export and long-distance distribution. With superior puncture resistance for handling delicate tuna loins, crystal-clear transparency for retail appeal, and full customization options—including custom sizes, multi-colour printing, and various bag styles—Packtastic is the trusted packaging partner for tuna processors, seafood exporters, and retailers worldwide.

What are Tuna Bags?

Tuna bags are multi-layer co-extruded high-barrier shrink bags specifically designed for vacuum packaging of tuna loins—including yellowfin, bluefin, bigeye, and other tuna species. The product is placed inside the bag, vacuum-sealed, and then passed through a hot water tunnel at 85–90°C. The heat causes the bag to shrink tightly around the tuna, creating a skin-tight, wrinkle-free package that conforms to the product's shape while providing a high-barrier seal against oxygen and moisture.

Packtastic offers both PVDC and EVOH barrier options, allowing you to choose the solution that best fits your product, storage conditions, and distribution requirements.

Key Features

Superior Oxygen & Moisture Barrier

PVDC and EVOH barrier layers provide exceptional protection against oxygen transmission—with oxygen transmission rates as low as ≤5 cc/m²·24h. This significantly extends product shelf life, prevents oxidation, and preserves the natural colour and flavour of tuna. PVDC maintains stable barrier performance even in high-humidity environments, making it ideal for fresh tuna in cold-chain conditions.

Extended Shelf Life

  • Chilled fresh tuna: Up to 4 months under refrigeration (0–4°C)

  • Precooked tuna loins: Extended shelf life under refrigeration

  • Frozen tuna: Up to 12 months or longer

Skin-Tight "Second Skin" Shrink Fit

When heated, the bag shrinks tightly around the tuna, forming a wrinkle-free "second skin" that conforms precisely to the product surface. This eliminates air pockets, reduces purge loss and blood seepage, and preserves the natural shape of the tuna loin.

Exceptional Clarity & High Gloss

Crystal-clear transparency and high gloss showcase the natural colour and texture of the tuna, enhancing retail shelf appeal and consumer confidence.

Superior Puncture & Tear Resistance

Multi-layer construction provides outstanding puncture resistance, protecting delicate tuna loins during handling, processing, and distribution. The shrinking process also thickens the packaging material, making it tougher and more durable.

Low-Temperature Shrink Options

Available with shrink temperatures as low as 85°C, helping to preserve product quality and prevent colour degradation during packaging.

Anti-Fog Properties

Optional anti-fog coating prevents condensation from forming inside the package, ensuring clear product visibility even under temperature fluctuations.

Food-Grade & Certified

Manufactured using food-grade materials suitable for direct food contact, compliant with FDA, ISO, BRC, HACCP, and Kosher standards.
